One of the skills of a good astrologer is the ability to understand which planet or planets have the most influence in a birth chart, or during transits.
Here are some of qualities of a strongly placed planet.
A planet is stronger when
- it's the ruler of the Ascendant (therefore the ruler of the chart)
- it's the ruler of the Midheaven (therefore ruler of the 10th house)
- it's on one of the angles (in particular the Ascendant or the Midheaven)
- it's in an angular house (in particular the 1st or 10th house)
- it's in a cardinal sign
- it conjoins the Sun or the ruler of the chart
- it inhabits its own sign
- it inhabits its exalted sign
- it's the ruler of the sign that rules the Sun
- it's the ruler of several other planets in the chart
- it's unaspected
